I told you I’d bring you more doughnuts, right?
Well, today I bring you S’mores Doughnuts! These freshly fried, yeast-risen doughnuts are stuffed with a marshmallow-y filling, frosted with a rich chocolate ganache, and topped with plenty of graham cracker crumbs. It’s the perfect way to enjoy the winding down of summer before we dive into Autumn with apple and pumpkin-flavored everything.
I assume this is the point where I lament the end of summer.
Sorry, friends. I am not the biggest fan of summer. It’s entirely too hot; as someone who loves sweaters, hot chocolate, and baking, I have been waiting eagerly for the arrival of Autumn and all of its flavors and fun.
Crunchy leaves, apple cider, and pumpkin spice here I come!
Oh, and my birthday is in the Autumn, so obviously it’s the best of all the seasons. Though I will admit to getting a little ahead of myself. I guess I can wait a wee bit longer and enjoy the end of summer.
Or…just a thought here….we can celebrate the end of the ghastly, humid heat wave that is summer in New Jersey with these S’mores Doughnuts!
I like that idea best, don’t you? 😉
Now, the base of these doughnuts is the same as the Neapolitan Doughnuts I shared with you last week. It’s a wonderfully simple foundation for any flavor doughnut you want to create, and it creates these perfect pillowy doughnuts, ready to be stuffed with whatever filling your sweet tooth needs.
I whipped up a rich, marshmallow filling to stuff into these S’mores Doughnuts, made with plenty of marshmallow fluff and heavy cream. It’s one of those “go hard or go home” moments: if you are already making homemade fried doughnuts, might as well go all-out with your recipe.
Oh, and you know how I know that these S’mores Doughnuts are a great idea?
Besides the fact that Dan and I ate entirely too many of them?
Great minds think alike. Brilliant minds think of S’mores Doughnuts.
