I learned something about myself this past weekend.
I do not like cakes.
I hate them. They are giant jerks.
No, wait, sorry. I didn’t mean that.
I love you cakes, but why don’t you love me?
Why must you fight me? Why must you slip and slide and become disheveled messes?
Oh you don’t hate me?
You were put up to it?
The German chocolate frosting told you to do it…it connived to ruin us and our relationship with its sticky, gluey self.
What a jerk.
Yes…I did just have a conversation with my cake. Our relationship hit a serious roadbump when I was finishing up this German chocolate cake for my boyfriend’s father’s 50th Birthday.
The decadent, moist chocolate cake fell prey to the evil workings of German Chocolate Frosting.
German Chocolate Frosting made my cake attempt to fall apart on me.
It was a trying day.
BUT – the best thing about frosting: if you make plenty of it, you can just plop that hot mess on like spackling a bunch of holes on your bedroom wall.
At the end of the day, the cake will still taste great, even if it is a little slouchy in one corner. 😉
So, if I ignore the frustrations of frosting a whole cake, this recipe is absolute decadence and perfection.
May I make the suggestion that you only frost the top and inner layer of the cake…it’s when you attempt to frost the sides that things get weird.
No one wants lumpy, bumpy cake.
Or, even better, make German Chocolate cupcakes! Easier to frost, and easier to eat! 😀
Also, I’ve learned when presented with a whole cake, people tend to cut a gigantic slice, without understanding how rich the cake may be and how finishing one quarter of the cake may be, how do I put this…
freaking impossible?! Or stomach-ache inducing, take your pick.
But if you are a fan of coconut, almonds, chocolate, and all around fudgy, indulgent cakes, this German Chocolate Cake recipe is right up your alley!
Oh and before I forget, because I’ve been getting a few comments and questions about it,
I made the new banner up top! Though I don’t know how many of you are actually surprised by that heehee. I just noticed that every time I asked for help with the graphics for my site, I could never completely articulate what I wanted. Hence, it never came out exactly the way I wanted.
So, I took it upon myself to mess around in PhotoShop incessantly until Tiny Cookie Man up there was born, along with the range of sugary mountains and puffy clouds.
I hope you love it as much as I do! 😀
If not, well, Tiny Cookie Man already told me he has squatter’s rights and won’t be leaving anytime soon…
So I’ll see you all on Friday with a recipe to begin the Thanksgiving festivities!
